Volvo Group

The Volvo Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks, buses, construction equipment and marine and industrial engines. Volvo Group is in VF-KDO represented by Volvo Group Trucks Operations, the largest industrial unit responsible for manufacturing of trucks as well as marine and industrial engines. The organization is also responsible for the service market logistics for all the brands within Volvo Group. The organization includes approximately 34,000 employees in 36 countries and has a global industrial footprint that offers an opportunity to an international world class industrial environment, where continuous improvement and productivity improvement is driven through Volvo Production System (VPS).

Within VF-KDO we aim to:

VF-KDO provides a very good opportunity to learn, test and evaluate the use of virtual manufacturing solutions in a number of areas and different process or system levels. For example, create models that are useful in process and production planning to simulate, evaluate and optimise the value adding part of the processing, including machine and human aspects to satisfy performance and human requirements. On a higher system level, this information can directly feed models for simulation and optimisation of production planning, sequencing and other logistics.

The organisation and long time horizon of VF-KDO will help Volvo Group to strengthen the cross functional and holistic understanding of how to utilise virtual manufacturing tools in a systematic way. And in particular, as the intention is to make this data driven, based of situation data as well as real data generated by the current production system, we expect that the accuracy and reliability of the results will be improved.
